About this role

We are seeking to appoint a full time Specialty Doctor to work in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology to commence as soon as possible.

This is a Trust Middle Grade post in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology department. The post holder will participate in a full shift middle grade on-call rota. Duties include second on-call for delivery suite and gynaecological emergencies, attending theatres and antenatal and gynaecology clinics. The rota will be set to 1:10 comprising of week day and weekend oncalls for both nights and day shifts.

The post holder must possess Part 1 Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (or equivalent) and have middle grade experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the NHS. A minimum of 3 years at ST3 or above is desirable.

The post will be offered for 12 months with a scope to extend for further duration.

Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. The appointee will work in conjunction with other middle grades contributing to the obstetrics and gynaecology services including the on-call service. The Trust employs 4 FY2s, 4 ST1-2s and 2 GPST1s and they will contribute to the first on-call tier of the rota. Middle grade rota operates on a single tier system of ST 3-7 equivalent levels. Hours of work are in the majority Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. When on-call, you are required to arrive on delivery suite at 8:30 and 20:30 for handover.

The expected duties will be appropriate to the grade and under direct supervision of the responsible consultant including clinics, operating sessions and ward rounds. The daily commitment will vary according to team/consultant responsibilities and the on-call commitments. Delivery suite duty is second on-call and involves supervision of O&G ST1-2, GP trainees and foundation doctors. Out of hours on-call will be undertaken at a middle grade level.

The Trust provides at least 77 hours of consultant presence on Delivery Suite and offers opportunity for direct supervision and training on Delivery Suite.

Active participation in teaching is encouraged. Clinical administration, including review of results, discharge letters, shared responsibility for in-patient care, will be expected. Annual and study leave must be arranged at least 6 weeks in advance. The post includes prospective cover for annual and study leave of colleagues.
