About this role

As a Social Worker in the Out of Hours team, you will play a critical role in protecting and supporting children, families and vulnerable adults at times of urgent need. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary hub, you’ll respond to complex situations outside of standard hours, completing assessments, managing risk and making confident decisions to keep people safe.

You’ll be part of an award-winning service, recognised as ‘Team of the Year’ at the Social Worker of the Year Awards, reflecting the team’s commitment to safeguarding and delivering high-quality support when it matters most. This is a fast-paced, collaborative environment where your professional judgement is valued, and your work has a direct impact on people’s lives.

What you’ll do

• Complete high-quality assessments and make evidence-based decisions in complex and high-risk situations.

• Develop and review care plans that promote safety, independence and positive outcomes.

• Build positive, professional relationships and work sensitively with individuals facing complex challenges.

• Work collaboratively with partner agencies to share information and coordinate effective support.

• Take part in a rota including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and overnight on-call duty.

What we’re looking for

• Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.

• Significant experience working with children and families in a social work setting.

• Strong assessment, risk management and decision-making skills.

• Excellent communication, relationship-building and report writing abilities.

• Resilient, organised and able to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment.

Why join us

• Join an award-winning Out of Hours team making a real difference every day.

• Work in a supportive, collaborative environment where your expertise is trusted.

• Benefit from a varied role with enhanced pay for unsocial hours.

• Access to Health Assured's comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme to support your physical and mental wellbeing, including 24/7 telephone support, a suite of online resources, and legal and financial advice.

• Competitive benefits package, including generous annual leave entitlement, occupational sick pay, and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.

This role involves working evenings, weekends and bank holidays, as well as participating in the overnight duty rota, for which enhancements are paid in line with the HCC salary policy.
