Key Responsibilities

• Support qualified staff in delivering high-quality care and early years education.

• Assist with planning and delivering engaging, age-appropriate learning activities.

• Help create a welcoming, inclusive, and stimulating environment where every child can thrive.

• Follow all nursery safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure children's safety and wellbeing.

• Help maintain a clean, safe, secure, and hygienic learning environment.

• Assist with daily care routines, including mealtimes, personal hygiene, and sleep/rest periods.

• Promptly report any concerns regarding a child's welfare or safety to a senior member of staff.

• Support the observation and assessment of children's learning and development.

• Assist with maintaining accurate records, learning journals, and developmental progress under the guidance of qualified staff.

• Contribute to planning activities that support children's individual learning needs and developmental milestones.

• Communicate positively with children, colleagues, and parents

• Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and college/workshop days

Working Week

Mon - Fri. 24-30 hrs per week. Can be more on weeks extra cover is needed

Qualifications Required

Desirable

● Previous experience with children (e.g. work experience, volunteering)

● GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (or willingness to work towards)

Personal Qualities

● A genuine interest in working with young children

● Willingness to learn and work towards an Early Years qualification

● Positive attitude and commitment to the apprenticeship

● Basic literacy and numeracy skills

Skills Required

• Good communication and teamwork skills.

• A willingness to learn and follow nursery policies and procedures.

• An understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality (training will be provided where required).

Training to be Provided

Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. They will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day.

You will be working towards the Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship standard, which includes

  • Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
  • Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid or Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)

This will be delivered by your dedicated training provider, Realise.

Future Prospects

Successful completion of the apprenticeship may lead to a permanent position as a Qualified Early Years Educator (EYE), with opportunities for continued professional development and career progression within the nursery.
