About the Role

We are seeking a reliable, proactive and hardworking School Caretaker to join our team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring our school site is safe, secure, clean and well maintained, creating a welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

This is a varied, hands-on role requiring excellent organisational skills, the ability to work independently and a commitment to maintaining high standards across the school premises.

Key Responsibilities

Open and secure the school buildings each day.

Carry out routine maintenance, minor repairs and basic DIY tasks.

Ensure the school site, buildings and grounds are clean, safe and well maintained.

Conduct regular health and safety checks and report any defects or hazards.

Monitor and maintain heating, lighting and other building systems.

Set up and clear rooms for assemblies, meetings and school events.

Liaise with external contractors and supervise works on site where required.

Manage deliveries and assist with the movement of furniture and equipment.

Monitor stock levels and order maintenance and cleaning supplies as required.

Assist with emergency situations, including responding to alarms and security issues.

Ensure compliance with health and safety, fire safety and safeguarding procedures.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have

Previous experience in a caretaking, facilities or maintenance role.

Good practical maintenance and DIY skills.

Knowledge of health and safety procedures.

Excellent organisational and time management skills.

The ability to prioritise workload and work independently.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

A flexible and positive approach to work.

The ability to remain calm under pressure and respond to emergencies when required.

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable

Experience working in a school or educational environment.

Basic knowledge of plumbing, decorating or electrical maintenance.

Relevant health and safety or facilities management qualifications.

First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake training).
