About this role

This job is a substantive role – replacing a colleague with a full timetable intact.

The role is on of an Orthopaedic Consultant with a special interest in hand surgery, who is also part of the general on-call rota.

The job is comprised of 10PA per week based mainly on the Frimley and Heatherwood sites.

Face to face interviews for this role will take place on the 4th September 2026.

You will participate in the provision of acute general on call services Mon - Friday On Call (1-in-13) and Friday to Monday (1-in-13). This may vary a little in future but is how things stand at present. The role also has one elective Saturday all day list once every two months at Heatherwood. The rest of the working month comprises a weekly fracture clinic, three elective theatre sessions, three semi-elective trauma theatre sessions and 4 elective clinics. The post holder participates in Radiology, Hand Therapy and Clinical MDT meetings. The role involves taking full clinical responsibility for a wide range of elective and emergency Orthopaedic patients, both children and adults, and liaise with specialist centres when appropriate. You will participate in the management of acute hand injuries with a commitment to the hand trauma service and the hand VFC. You will be expected to help with Medical Student Education, supervise and manage Junior Medical Staff and help deliver teaching and training programmes to Junior Medical Staff, Allied Healthcare Professionals and Medical Students. You will be required to demonstrate excellent team working, flexibility, adaptability and be able to integrate into a strong cohesive team to deliver operational performance. In addition, you will participate in all departmental activities including audit, clinical governance and research.
