Hays Education are working in partnership with a thriving secondary school in Ormskirk to recruit a reliable and organised Science Technician for a full-time, long-term position commencing in September. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a successful school community and support the delivery of high-quality science education across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Your new role

As a Science Technician, you will be an integral member of the Science Department, ensuring practical lessons are delivered safely and effectively. Working alongside teaching staff, you will prepare resources, maintain laboratory equipment and support the smooth day-to-day running of the department.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Preparing and setting up equipment, materials and chemicals for practical science lessons.
  • Supporting Biology, Chemistry and Physics teaching by ensuring resources are available and ready for use.
  • Maintaining laboratories, preparation rooms and storage areas to a high standard.
  • Cleaning, testing and storing equipment following practical sessions.
  • Managing stock levels and assisting with orders for science resources and consumables.
  • Ensuring all activities comply with relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Assisting with risk assessments and the safe handling and disposal of chemicals.
  • Supporting departmental administration, including inventory management and record-keeping.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous experience as a Science Technician, Laboratory Technician or within a science-based environment.
  • A strong understanding of laboratory procedures and health and safety requirements.
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one through Hays.

Candidates with relevant scientific qualifications or practical laboratory experience are encouraged to apply.
