Work with purpose

At the Field Studies Council our mission is to create outstanding opportunities that inspire everyone to engage with and care for the environment. We promise to get people outdoors, provide high quality learning and encourage positive wellbeing.

In this role, you’ll play an important role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our learning location and help us create a welcoming experience for the schools and groups who visit us.

What you’ll be doing

  • Acting as the first point of contact for customer enquiries by phone and email, always delivering professional and friendly service
  • Managing course bookings and maintaining accurate, up-to-date records in our booking systems
  • Providing general administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the office and wider team
  • Assisting with the promotion of our programmes to customers, stakeholders, and partners
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the centre and supporting nearby locations when needed
  • This role also forms part of our duty/on‑call rota which will involve staying on site on some evenings and overnight to deal with customer issues and respond to emergencies.

Where you’ll be based

Castle Head isn’t your typical office environment. Set within 30 acres of private grounds and a historic Georgian house, it offers a sense of space and tranquillity yet remains accessible by road and rail. With accommodation for over 150 guests, versatile workrooms, and a sports hall, the centre hosts a wide range of groups all year round. Surrounded by woodland, grassland, and freshwater habitats, it’s a place where you can take a moment to enjoy the beauty of the Lake District while delivering exceptional service to every visitor.

Grow with us

We’re a team driven by our values: learning, environment, teamwork, and service.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your administrative skills, gain insight into environmental education, and be part of a supportive team that values collaboration and continuous improvement.

Bring your strengths

You’ll thrive in this role if you

  • Have experience in an administrative or customer-facing role
  • Are highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with a range of people
  • Enjoy working as part of a team and supporting others
  • Share our passion for the environment and meaningful experiences

Your benefits whilst working with us will include

  • Pro rata of 28 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • 2 extra loyalty days dependent on length of service
  • Life assurance 5 x your annual basic salary
  • Health and Wellbeing Support App
  • Cycle to work and EV schemes
  • Discounts and cashback opportunities
  • Flexible working options where roles permit
  • Quality learning and development opportunities

This is a great opportunity to join a supportive team who care about what they do and where they work.
