Specialist Doctor (10 PA's) - Care of the Elderly
Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust seeks to appoint a Specialist Grade Doctor in Care of the Elderly Medicine to work as part of the multidisciplinary Geriatric Medicine team, providing senior clinical leadership across acute medical wards.
The post holder will take a high level of clinical responsibility for the assessment, management, and ongoing care of older adult patients, with a particular focus on frailty, complex multi-morbidity, delirium, falls, and discharge coordination.
The post holder will work across Care of the Elderly services and will also support the wider Medical Division, which includes Gastroenterology, Acute Medicine, General Medicine, Cardiology, and Respiratory Medicine wards as required.
This is a senior non-consultant post operating with a high degree of clinical autonomy, working closely with Consultant Geriatricians and contributing to service leadership, governance, and quality improvement.
The purpose of the post is to ensure that the highest quality of care is provided to each individual patient. The prime responsibility of the post holder will be to provide clinical cover for Inpatient care, supporting the clinical management of the patients and helping junior members of the team.
Main duties include
- To ensure the effective organisation of the ward including diagnosis and treatment of all admitted patients
- To ensure the appropriate discharge of patients, including providing timely paperwork to the General Practitioner ensuring a continuation of care following discharge.
- To provide direct clinical supervision and training of Junior Medical Staff as well as the organisation and delegation of clinical work.
- To monitor the quality of service provided on the designated medical ward this will include clinical audits.
- To participate in development of medical treatment protocols.
- To provide professional supervision under Consultant guidance aiming to encourage the development of all doctors within the Medicine & Urgent Care Division.
- To contribute to the provision of reports for the Coroner, Police Statements and for Complaints management adhering to time frames.
- To demonstrate an involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit.
- To ensure your own practice is up to date. This will include taking responsibility for own clinical professional development and participation in the Trust wide appraisal system
