Your new company
Hays are working in partnership with a well-established secondary school in the Blackburn area to recruit a Temporary IT Support Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience within a busy school IT environment, supporting the delivery of technology services ahead of the new academic year.The school is investing heavily in its IT infrastructure and requires additional support over the summer period to prepare classrooms, learning spaces, and student devices for September.
Your new role
As a Temporary IT Support Assistant, you will work closely with the IT Manager and Network Manager to help prepare the academy for the start of the new academic year.
Your duties will include
- Assisting with the setup, deployment, and installation of over 250 desktop PCs across classrooms and other areas of the school.
- Moving, unpacking, and connecting IT equipment.
- Performing basic hardware checks and ensuring devices are ready for use.
- Supporting the IT team with technology rollouts and classroom preparations.
- Providing friendly, first-line assistance to staff and new students during the September intake.
- Assisting with general IT support tasks as directed by the IT and Network Managers.
- Helping ensure all IT equipment is organised, labelled, and deployed efficiently.
This is a temporary position starting on 10 August 2026, offering 25-35 hours per week.

- Enjoy working as part of a team.
- Have a keen interest in IT and technology.
- Possess basic IT knowledge and confidence using computer equipment.
- Be physically fit and comfortable moving desktop computers and other IT hardware around the school site.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to undergo a DBS check (preferred)
- Previous experience in an IT support role is beneficial but not essential, as full guidance and support will be provided.
