Are you an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant looking to make a real difference in a Year 1 classroom?

A welcoming primary school in Northfield is seeking a dedicated Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This rewarding role involves supporting the class teacher to deliver engaging lessons, helping pupils make a successful transition from the Early Years into Key Stage One, while providing targeted support to children requiring additional academic or pastoral intervention.

  • Support teaching and learning within a Year 1 classroom

Deliver targeted 1

1 and small group interventions in phonics, reading, writing and maths

  • Support pupils with varying learning needs, including those with SEND where required
  • Assist with the delivery of Little Wandle or a similar systematic phonics programme
  • Encourage positive behaviour and promote pupil engagement throughout the school day
  • Prepare classroom resources and support learning through practical and engaging activities
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCO and wider staff team to ensure every child reaches their full potential
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience working within EYFS or Key Stage One
  • Confident supporting early reading, phonics and numeracy
  • Experience supporting children with additional needs is desirable
  • A positive, patient and proactive approach
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues
  • Large, welcoming primary school educating children aged 5-11
