Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with additional needs?

A welcoming primary school in Selly Oak is seeking a committed SEND Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated SEN Hub from September 2026. This role involves supporting pupils with Autism, non-verbal communication needs and SEMH, helping them access learning in a safe, structured and nurturing environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a supportive and experienced team, with the opportunity to secure a permanent position.

Provide tailored 1

1 and small group support within the school's SEN Hub

  • Support pupils with Autism (including non-verbal pupils) and SEMH needs
  • Use visual strategies, PECS, Makaton and communication aids where appropriate
  • Promote emotional regulation, independence and positive behaviour
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals
  • Help create a calm, engaging and inclusive learning environment
  • Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience supporting children with ASD, non-verbal communication needs and/or SEMH
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or other communication strategies is desirable
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Friendly, two-form entry primary school with a Nursery, educating children aged 3-11
  • Rated Good by Ofsted, with a strong focus on inclusion, pupil wellbeing and high expectations
  • Well-established SEN Hub supporting pupils with a range of additional needs
