Applications are invited for two consltants in general/ambulatory paediatrics in the Department of Paediatrics based at the Children’s Hospital Oxford
The successful applicant will join an established team of Consultant Paediatricians working in General, Ambulatory and Emergency Medicine at the John Radcliffe Hospital. This ambulatory care post will consist of duties in the Paediatric Ambulatory Unit (Children’s Clinical Decision Unit), General Paediatric outpatients, the Paediatric Emergency Department and General Paediatrics on call. This post has no neonatal commitments.
The successful applicant will be expected to work flexibly across sites and may be required to provide cover, including out-of-hours duties, at Horton General Hospital, Banbury.
Applicants should have demonstrable experience and training to CCT level in General Paediatrics.
CDU/ ED duties
The John Radcliffe has a busy Paediatric Ambulatory Unit which sees over 500 patients a month. The successful applicant will be responsible for the review and management of these patients as well as supporting and training staff. These patients include GP referrals, day reviews, and ED referrals. The post holder will be expected to work closely with the inpatient ward-based Consultant allowing for an effective Consultant led service in accordance with RCPCH guidance. The candidate will also be expected to offer support and advice to the ED department to facilitate flow and enhance teamwork and decision making.
Outpatient clinics
General Paediatric and Rapid access clinics. These clinics review General Paediatric referrals from GPs within the community as well as from Specialists within the Oxford Children’s Hospital. Rapid access clinics aim to review children within two weeks of referral following triage by the Paediatric consultant team.
On call Duties
On call duties will include the management and discussion of patients admitted under General Paediatrics to the Oxford Children’s Hospital from 5pm- 9am. Frequency of on calls will differ between summer and winter months. These shifts are non- resident after 7:30 pm (winter) and 9:00 pm (summer).
