About the Service

The Nest is a small, 2-bed residential children’s home supporting children and young people aged 7–17 (on admission) with emotional, social, and behavioural difficulties.

The service provides a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where young people are supported to develop emotional regulation, build confidence, and work towards greater independence.

A strong focus is placed on positive routines, healthy lifestyles, and community engagement, with young people encouraged to take part in activities such as sports, walking, fitness sessions, and creative outlets to support wellbeing and development.

Placements may be short or long term, with clear progression pathways including reunification, foster care transition, or preparation for independent or supported living.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Team Leader to support the management team in leading day-to-day practice within this small residential setting.

You will take responsibility for leading shifts, supporting staff, and ensuring young people receive consistent, high-quality care in line with their individual plans and needs.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will be closely involved in both operational delivery and direct support.

Key Responsibilities

Lead shifts and provide clear guidance to the residential care team

Support the implementation of individual care plans and behaviour support strategies

Promote positive routines, structure, and engagement for young people

Ensure safeguarding and child protection standards are consistently maintained

Supervise, support, and mentor staff on shift

Maintain accurate records, logs, and incident reports

Encourage participation in healthy activities and community engagement

Work collaboratively with external professionals and families

Contribute to a stable, nurturing, and supportive home environment

About You

NVQ Level 3 / Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)

Experience within a children’s residential care setting

Previous experience in a senior support or team leader role (preferred)

Strong understanding of safeguarding and residential care standards

Confident in leading shifts and supporting staff practice

Calm, consistent, and able to manage challenging behaviour

Strong communication and organisational skills

Passionate about supporting children and young people to achieve positive outcomes
