Join our dedicated Estates Team at Manchester Central Hospital as a Mechanical Engineering Technician and become a vital contributor to maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency within our hospital environment.
In this key role, you will deliver comprehensive mechanical and electrical maintenance services, ensuring the seamless operation of critical hospital infrastructure.Working collaboratively within a skilled and dynamic team, you will be responsible for both planned and emergency maintenance activities, demonstrating technical expertise and a commitment to excellence.Your role will require you to operate in line with industry best practices, HTMs, and Trust policies, including health and safety, infection control, and permit to work systems.Flexibility and responsiveness are essential, as you will be part of the on call rota, providing vital support during emergency situations to safeguard patients, staff, and hospital assets.

What You’ll Do
- Evidence of training and expertise in welding techniques and mechanical maintenance
- Experience in setting out, fabricating, installing, and commissioning steel and copper pipework for infrastructure
- Strong understanding of pumps, pressure sets, pressure vessels, and plate heat exchangers.
- Ability to investigate breakdowns, identify root causes, and undertake remedial actions promptly
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, codes of practice, and health and safety regulations affecting engineering works
- Skilled in carrying out statutory, planned preventative, and reactive maintenance of plant and equipment
- Capable of diagnosing, testing, calibrating, and repairing advanced mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems
- Proven ability to provide technical advice, ensure safety standards, and respond effectively to emergencies
What You Bring
- NVQ Level 3 qualification required
- NHS or healthcare facilities experience
- Previous experience using SharePoint and Maximo CAFM
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Self motivated and able to adapt to changing priorities
- Able to demonstrate an aptitude for problem solving using a logical approach
- Works well in a pressurised environment
