The Medical Device Support Worker ensures the safe and efficient availability of medical equipment across clinical services. The role supports the equipment pool, responds to helpdesk requests, and maintains accurate records to support patient care.

As a key point of contact for clinical staff, you will assist with equipment requests, fault reporting, basic troubleshooting, and repair coordination. Duties will also include include issuing, collecting, cleaning, and preparing devices, and updating equipment management systems.

This is a hands-on role in a busy healthcare environment, requiring strong organisation, attention to detail, and good communication skills.

Medical Equipment Pool Support

  • Issue, collect, track, and return medical devices in line with local procedures
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned, checked, and prepared for safe clinical use
  • Maintain equipment availability by monitoring stock levels and escalating shortages
  • Identify and isolate faulty or unsafe equipment for repair or replacement

Helpdesk and Customer Support

  • Act as a first point of contact for medical device-related queries and requests
  • Log, prioritise, and manage helpdesk calls and requests using relevant systems
  • Provide basic fault-finding and troubleshooting advice where appropriate
  • Escalate complex or urgent issues to Medical Engineering or senior staff
  • Communicate effectively with clinical users, providing updates and guidance

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain accurate records for equipment loans, assets, servicing, and repairs
  • Update databases, tracking systems, and spreadsheets in line with procedures
  • Support audits, inspections, and compliance reporting as required
  • Prepare reports and documentation for clinical and engineering teams

Equipment Safety and Compliance

  • Assist in ensuring medical devices are used and managed in accordance with safety regulations, policies, and manufacturer guidance
  • Support adherence to infection control, health and safety, and risk management procedures
  • Report incidents, near misses, or equipment issues through appropriate channels

Teamworking and Service Support

  • Liaise with clinical departments, stores, portering, and estates teams as required
  • Support Medical Engineering staff with routine tasks and service delivery
  • Participate in training and development activities relevant to the role
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives and workload flexibility across the team
