About this role
Lead Veterinary Surgeon | Partnership Opportunity | Small Animal Practice | West Sussex
Own a Veterinary Practice – With the Support to Succeed
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lead Veterinary Surgeon to take the next step into practice ownership without taking on the challenges alone.
Perfect for an ambitious veterinary surgeon with leadership experience, this role offers the opportunity to become a clinical leader and business partner within a well-established 3–4 vet small animal practice in West Sussex. Backed by an experienced support network, the successful candidate can enjoy the independence of owning a practice while benefiting from comprehensive operational, financial and clinical support.
This is an ideal opportunity for a confident GP Veterinary Surgeon who is passionate about delivering exceptional clinical standards, mentoring colleagues and helping to grow a thriving practice. The clinic is well-equipped with on-site CT, modern diagnostic facilities, a dedicated night team and excellent potential for further development. The wider partnership model also allows complementary skill sets across multiple partners, with this role acting as the clinical lead.
The Role
The successful candidate will lead and inspire the veterinary team, maintaining outstanding patient care while driving clinical excellence and supporting the continued growth of the practice. Previous leadership experience is highly desirable, although candidates with the ambition and aptitude to step into a leadership role are encouraged to apply.
Partnership Benefits
- Monthly profit share alongside a guaranteed exit payment when leaving the partnership
- A clear, structured exit strategy with increasing practice valuations over time
- Potential drawings increasing from approximately £110,000 at Year 2 to £178,000 by Year 10
- Opportunity to build equity, with projected values exceeding £1.2 million over time*
- Flexible finance options, including deferred payment schemes and competitive lending support
Comprehensive Support
Partners benefit from extensive support, allowing them to focus on clinical leadership rather than administration, including:
- Dedicated finance, HR, marketing, procurement and facilities teams
- Regional Operations support
- Access to an experienced network of veterinary professionals and specialists
- Guaranteed minimum drawings equivalent to £75,000 during the early stages if practice profits are lower than expected
- Ongoing business coaching and partnership guidance
Candidate Requirements
- RCVS Registered Veterinary Surgeon
- Previous experience leading or mentoring a veterinary team
- Strong clinical and communication skills
- Passion for delivering exceptional patient and client care
- Ambition to develop both a successful practice and a high-performing team
This is a rare opportunity to combine clinical leadership with business ownership, offering genuine autonomy, financial reward and long-term career progression, all with the reassurance of an experienced support structure.
For veterinary surgeons who have considered owning a practice but wanted the confidence of expert backing and a defined exit strategy, this opportunity offers the best of both worlds.
