About this role

Are you an experienced clinical pharmacist with an interest in renal and urology pharmacy? We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and forward-thinking Band 8a Highly Specialist Pharmacist to join our renal and urology pharmacy team at The Royal London Hospital.

This is a varied and rewarding role within one of the largest and most complex renal services in the country. You will work closely with the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Renal and Urology, the wider pharmacy team, consultants, nurses and the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective and patient-focused medicines optimisation across inpatient wards, outpatient clinics and dialysis services.

The post offers an excellent opportunity to develop advanced clinical, leadership, governance, prescribing and service-development skills within a supportive and ambitious pharmacy department.

You will be primarily based at The Royal London Hospital, with a requirement to work across Barts Health sites as needed, including travel to satellite dialysis units.

The post holder will support the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Renal and Urology in delivering a high-quality clinical pharmacy and medicines management service across the specialty.

You will provide specialist clinical pharmacy input to renal and urology patients, including participation in consultant ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, outpatient clinics, medicines reconciliation, prescribing and discharge planning. You will promote safe, effective and cost-effective prescribing, ensuring medicines are optimised to improve outcomes, reduce harm and support patient flow.

The role will include supporting the development and implementation of evidence-based guidelines, shared care arrangements, patient group directions and local medicines policies. You will also contribute to medicines governance, risk management, incident review, audit, service improvement and cost improvement programmes.

You will play an important role in the education, supervision and development of junior pharmacists, trainee pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other healthcare professionals. The post holder will also support staff management, appraisals, objectives, training and performance development within the renal and urology pharmacy team.

The role includes participation in late duty, weekend, bank holiday and on-call rotas.
