About this role
The role leads the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme across universal, targeted and specialist levels, building community capacity and responding to the health needs of children, young people and families. It involves assessing health needs, planning and coordinating care, delivering health promotion, and providing early intervention through partnership working with schools, families and multiagency teams. Key responsibilities include managing a school nursing caseload, analysing data to inform service planning, supporting mental and physical wellbeing, safeguarding children, and ensuring effective signposting and referral pathways. The role requires delivering therapeutic interventions, offering accessible support to young people, and ensuring children not in school still receive the universal offer. Clinically, the postholder must maintain NMC registration, keep accurate records, stay up to date with evidencebased practice, manage time effectively, and understand medicines management. Leadership duties include supervising staff, delegating tasks, supporting team development, contributing to service improvement, and developing specialist expertise. The role also involves leading and participating in clinical audit, supporting research, and using findings to improve practice. Communication responsibilities include working sensitively with families, sharing information appropriately, contributing to multiagency work, and promoting a culture where concerns can be raised safely.
