Job Introduction

This job puts good food on the table.

As a Food Service Assistant with Sodexo at Nuffield Health Chichester Hospital, you’ll play an important part in preparing and serving nutritious, comforting meals that support patient recovery and wellbeing. You’ll also help maintain a clean, safe environment in the kitchen and dining areas. With a cheerful attitude and great customer service, your presence can make a real difference in someone’s day. What you’ll do

  • Prepare and present sandwiches, salads and other food items for patients, staff and visitors, following agreed recipes and quality standards.
  • Ensure meals are prepared and served on time for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  • Deliver a friendly, welcoming and professional service to patients, colleagues and visitors.
  • Follow all food safety, hygiene (HACCP) and health & safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Keep your work area clean, organised and well stocked, completing cleaning and temperature records as required.
  • Check deliveries for quality and temperature, rotate stock and safely dispose of out-of-date food.
  • Support the wider catering team by working collaboratively, minimising food waste and meeting special dietary requirements where needed.

What you bring

  • Good communication skills and a positive, customer-focused approach.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team in a busy environment.
  • A good understanding of food hygiene and health & safety requirements, with a willingness to follow procedures at all times.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
  • A reliable, organised approach with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet service times.
  • A Level 1 Food Hygiene Certificate (or higher) is desirable, although training will be provided.
  • A commitment to treating confidential information with care and maintaining high standards of professionalism.
