About this role

The successful applicant will provide a comprehensive Obstetric and Gynaecological service to ensure the IWT are able to provide place‑based care wherever possible/appropriate adhering to NHS population‑health priorities.

The Isle of Wight has a finite but diverse population therefore applications are welcome for the following

Core Gynaecology Subspecialties

  • Gynaecological Oncology, Urogynaecology, Maternal & Reproductive Health (Benign Gynaecology focus). Targeted subspecialty interests (e.g. urogynaecology, hysteroscopy, colposcopy, menopause are also welcome to support the IWTs desire to build and maintain a Resilient, Future‑Proof Consultant Workforce.

6 Consultant on-call rota as agreed with appointee.

Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.

You will work as a dual‑role Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, contributing across maternity, emergency and elective gynaecology services.

Key features include

  • Consultant‑led labour ward presence and antenatal clinics
  • Planned gynaecology clinics and theatre sessions
  • Supervision and support of specialty doctors, trainees and students
  • Active involvement in governance, audit, teaching and service development
  • Participation in a consultant on‑call rota currently 1:6

We are particularly keen to appoint consultants with interests in any of these specialty areas

  • Urogynaecology
  • Gynaecological oncology
  • Maternal medicine
  • Benign gynaecological surgery
  • Fertility, colposcopy, hysteroscopy or menopause care

Subspecialty interests will be supported and developed within a balanced generalist model.

The on-call commitment is 1 in 6 and the appropriate supplement is Category A low frequency with 3% payable. There is an on-call allocation of 1.25 PA (including 0.83 PAs unpredictable activity and 0.42 PAs evening on-site ward round) which is incorporated into the 10.0 PA job plan.
