Technical Officer (Food Law)

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of the Environmental Health team that is committed to delivering a wide range of regulatory duties throughout Renfrewshire.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Business Regulation Team.

The role will involve assisting and supporting Environmental Health enforcement officers in the delivery of a range of regulatory and statutory services. These are aimed at protecting the public and the environment through monitoring, auditing, providing information and advice and formal enforcement.

It is essential that you hold a Scottish Food Safety Officer’s Registration Board Higher Certificate in Food Practice or equivalent, experience in multi-disciplinary project work, experience of advising on legislation & applying standards/guidance and/or working within a regulatory role and experience in the use of IT and packages such as Microsoft Teams, Word, and Excel.

You must have effective communication, interpersonal, negotiation and partnership working skills and be able to deal with a wide range of customers and clients with differing backgrounds. You will be able to self-manage and work on own initiative and be able to work as part of a team whilst balancing team, service and corporate priorities.

You must have a flexible approach to work, be able to carry out the role with credibility and professionalism and have the ability to adapt quickly to any changes in legislation/guidance/working practices so it is essential you have the ability to interpret new legislation.

A current full driving licence is essential.

Knowledge of new initiatives, procedures and best practice in Environmental Health, Degree in Food Science or Food Technology or equivalent, REHIS Membership and relevant Environmental Health experience is diserable but not essential.
