About this role

The Head of Corporate Business provides strategic leadership for corporate governance, risk management, assurance, regulatory compliance, Welsh language standards and corporate business functions across NHS Wales Performance and Improvement. The post holder acts as the organisations senior professional lead for these areas, providing expert advice and assurance to the Chief of Staff, Senior Director Team and senior leaders on matters that carry significant organisational, financial and reputational risk. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining robust governance, assurance and business management frameworks that support effective decision-making, accountability and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. This includes oversight of organisational risk management arrangements, governing documents, written control documents, audit processes and organisational assurance reporting. The post holder will lead multidisciplinary teams delivering high-profile and confidential services, ensuring the organisation has effective business processes. They will act as lead officer for providing assurance to the PHW Board and Committees as required, co-ordinating responses to internal and external scrutiny, and provide assurance that appropriate controls and business management arrangements are in place across the organisation. Key responsibilities include leading the development of governance and business management frameworks; overseeing organisational risk and assurance reporting; ensuring compliance with legislative standards and regulatory requirements; managing corporate information systems including Datix, SharePoint and Power BI; and producing high-quality corporate reports and assurance statements. The Head of Corporate Business will provide strong leadership to the Corporate Support and Business Team with responsibility for team workforce planning, performance management, staff development and wellbeing. The role requires the ability to influence and negotiate at senior levels, manage complex and sensitive issues, lead organisational change and represent the organisation at national forums and external meetings. Working with a high degree of autonomy, the post holder will deputise for the Chief of Staff as required, lead complex investigations and improvement initiatives, and play a key role in supporting the development of a high-performing, well-governed and continuously improving organisation.
