About this role
The Deputy Manager provides strong day-to-day operational leadership and management support to the Registered Manager. The post holder will help ensure the branch remains safe, stable, well organised and focused on delivering high-quality, person-centred care throughout the maternity-cover period. Working in close partnership with the Registered Manager, the Deputy Manager will lead an allocated group of carers and clients, support quality and compliance activity, manage operational concerns and act as the Registered Managers delegate when required. This is a hands-on operational leadership role. It requires care credibility, sound professional judgement, strong people-management capability and the ability to maintain standards in a busy and changing homecare environment. The successful candidate will join before the current Deputy Manager begins maternity leave to support a structured handover and continuity of leadership.
Role accountability The Deputy Manager
leads operational delivery and supports the Registered Manager; holds delegated responsibility for an allocated group of carers and clients; manages day-to-day people, quality and service concerns; acts within agreed authority and escalates significant risks appropriately; deputises for the Registered Manager during agreed periods of absence; and contributes to branch stability, quality and continuous improvement. The Registered Manager retains overall accountability for the regulated service. Key responsibilities1. Operational leadership
The Deputy Manager will
Work closely with the Registered Manager to support the safe and effective running of the branch. Provide visible, calm and credible day-to-day leadership. Act as the Registered Managers delegate during agreed periods of absence. Make sound operational decisions within their delegated authority. Identify emerging service risks and take timely action or escalate appropriately. Support clear communication and consistent ways of working across the office and care teams. Contribute to branch management meetings and provide accurate updates relating to allocated staff, clients, quality and operational performance. Support safe service growth without compromising quality or continuity of care. Help maintain an organised, professional and responsive branch environment. 2. People leadership and management
The Deputy Manager will
Manage an allocated group of carers, with the exact allocation determined by the Registered Manager. Ensure staff understand their duties, responsibilities and expected standards. Provide professional supervision, coaching, feedback and practical support. Complete growth and development meetings, performance reviews and other agreed supervision activity. Manage performance, conduct, capability and attendance concerns in line with Avanti policies and HR guidance. Support disciplinary and grievance processes where required. Complete absence reviews, fit-to-care assessments and other relevant staff reviews. Support visa-related reviews and processes where these form part of the allocated management responsibility. Identify learning needs and work with colleagues to ensure development actions are followed through. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries while supporting staff wellbeing. Role-model calm, fair and respectful leadership. Encourage reflective practice, learning and accountability. 3. Client and case management
The Deputy Manager will
Hold delegated responsibility for an allocated caseload of clients. Ensure clients receive safe, person-centred and outcome-focused care. Complete and oversee client assessments, care planning, risk assessments and package onboarding. Complete six-monthly client reviews and update care plans and review documentation. Ensure relevant feedback from client reviews is communicated to the care team. Monitor changing client needs and ensure care plans remain accurate and current. Support positive risk-taking and appropriate Mental Capacity Act decision-making. Maintain accurate client records within Access Care Planning or other approved systems. Liaise professionally with clients, families, representatives and external professionals. Attend multidisciplinary and external meetings and represent Avanti professionally. 4. Quality, safeguarding and medication governance
The Deputy Manager will
Support the Registered Manager in maintaining regulatory compliance and Avanti quality standards. Complete or oversee spot checks, quality monitoring and care-practice reviews. Complete monthly eMAR audits and ensure identified actions are followed through. Coach carers on safe medication administration and recording. Recognise, respond to and escalate safeguarding concerns appropriately. Support safeguarding referrals and investigations alongside the Registered Manager. Investigate complaints, incidents and care-quality concerns. Maintain clear evidence of findings, actions and learning. Ensure improvement actions are implemented and reviewed for effectiveness. Promote an open culture in which concerns, feedback and learning are taken seriously. 5. Systems, records and management information
The Deputy Manager will
Maintain accurate and timely records across Avantis digital systems. Use Access Care Planning, People Planner, email, Microsoft Office or Google Workspace and online calendars confidently. Ensure allocated management actions are recorded and followed through. Monitor office alerts, Live View, medication updates, care records and other relevant operational information. Provide accurate information for branch management reporting. Use quality and workforce information to identify risks, themes and improvement needs. Manage their diary and workload effectively. 6. Office and service support
The Deputy Manager will
Support the day-to-day running of the branch office. Respond professionally to telephone calls, carers visiting the office and operational enquiries. Ensure office alerts and actions have clear outcomes. Support invoice-note updates and other agreed administrative controls. Work collaboratively with the Senior Care Coordinator, Care Coordinator, Care Quality Manager and administrative colleagues. Undertake any reasonable operational action required to protect safe service delivery. Cover care calls during office hours when necessary to maintain client safety and continuity. 7. On-call responsibilities
The Deputy Manager will
Participate in the paid management on-call rota, currently one week in every four.
Provide out-of-hours support until 10
30pm, including weekends during the allocated on-call week. Make safe and proportionate decisions in response to staffing, client or service concerns. Arrange or support emergency care-call cover where required. Escalate serious safeguarding, operational or reputational risks appropriately. Maintain accurate records of on-call actions and handovers.
