Gearbox Technician

Our client is actively seeking an experienced Gearbox Technician to join a leading automotive workshop in Egham.

This role offers the opportunity to specialise in gearbox diagnostics, removal, and refit work within a state-of-the-art facility. The ideal Gearbox Technician will have demonstrable experience in gearbox work, a practical approach, and the ability to support general mechanical tasks.

Benefits

• Competitive salary between £35,000 and £45,000, depending on experience
• Revenue-based monthly bonus of approximately £400, based on quality of work
• Monday to Friday working hours, 8am to 5pm, with a 45-minute lunch break

Duties of the Gearbox Technician

• Remove and refit gearboxes across various vehicle makes and models
• Perform diagnostic tests using industry-standard equipment to identify faults
• Support general mechanical tasks such as servicing, brakes, and other repairs
• Assist with gearbox stripping, rebuilding, and preventative maintenance
• Conduct test drives to verify repairs and quality standards
• Maintain high levels of workmanship, safety, and efficiency
• Support team members and contribute to a collaborative workshop environment as a Gearbox Technician

Requirements

• Proven experience as a time-served mechanic with a focus on gearbox work
• Ability to confidently remove and refit gearboxes
• Own toolbox and diagnostic skills, including test-drive capabilities
• Practical, team-oriented mindset willing to undertake challenging gearbox tasks
• Local individuals preferred, ideally based around M25, M3, or A3 corridors
• No specific certifications required; gearbox rebuild experience is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided
