About this role

Rob Royd Farm Shop & Restaurant is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Apprentice Chef to join our kitchen team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about food and eager to develop their culinary skills while working towards a recognised apprenticeship catering qualification. You will receive hands-on training in a busy farm shop and restaurant environment, learning to prepare fresh, high-quality dishes using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and cooking of menu items under the guidance of senior chefs.

• Learn and apply a range of cooking techniques and food preparation methods.

• Prepare ingredients, including washing, peeling, chopping, weighing and measuring.

• Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation and portion control.

• Help ensure all food is prepared safely and in line with food hygiene regulations.

• Keep kitchen workstations, equipment and storage areas clean, organised and sanitised.

• Assist with stock rotation, deliveries and inventory checks, following FIFO (First In, First Out) principles.

• Support the team during busy service periods while maintaining attention to detail.

• Follow all health and safety policies and procedures.

• Attend college or training provider sessions as part of the apprenticeship programme and complete all required coursework.

• Demonstrate a positive attitude, willingness to learn and commitment to developing culinary skills.

The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in developing a career as a chef, enjoy working as part of a team, and take pride in producing quality food. They will be eager to learn, open to feedback, and committed to delivering excellent standards in both food preparation and customer service.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards a nationally recognised Level 2 Production Chef qualification through Barnsley College.
