Community Support Officer

About this role

37 hours per week

This role is office-based; however, it also offers some agile or remote working

Are you a natural problem-solver who is motivated by helping people, building relationships and making a visible difference in communities?

Do you have the confidence, curiosity and determination to work alongside a wide range of partners, join the dots between services, and help find practical solutions to complex community safety issues?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Isle of Wight Council’s Community Safety Team as a Community Support Officer. This is a varied, dynamic role focused on supporting residents and communities by addressing anti-social behaviour (ASB) and contributing to wider Community Safety Partnership priorities.

In this role, you will work closely with Council colleagues, police and partner organisations, taking a flexible, proportionate and solution-focused problem-solving approach to resolving ASB and related community safety concerns.

The role involves attending meetings, boards and partnership forums, working directly with members of the public, carrying out investigations, and managing a varied case load. You will be expected to engage confidently and professionally with residents, gather information, provide reassurance, and support evidence led decision making.

You will need to think beyond narrow remits, supporting partners and communities wherever possible while maintaining clear professional boundaries and applying balance, judgement and fairness.

You will be comfortable managing your own workload, prioritising competing demands, and using enforcement powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 when necessary and appropriate.

This role is well suited to someone who enjoys variety, values partnership working, and is confident handling complex or challenging situations with professionalism, empathy and resilience. You will be organised, proactive, and a strong communicator, with the ability to bring people together around a common goal.

In return, you will be part of a small, dedicated team that punches above its weight, offering the opportunity to be involved in some of the most interesting and impactful community safety work on the Island. No two days are the same, and there is genuine scope to shape aspects of the role through proactive engagement and creative problem-solving.

For further information or to arrange an informal discussion about the role, please contact community.safety@iow.gov.uk to speak with the Community Safety Operational Manager.
