The Pre-analytical section in Laboratory Medicine is looking for a team of dedicated, enthusiastic people to join our team of Biomedical support workers.

Our Biomedical support workers are a core part of the team providing on-going support to patients and clinical staff.

No previous experience is required, as full training is provided.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The department operates between 8am and 8pm, 7 days a week (including weekends and bank holidays) We are looking for individuals to work on a full-time basis mainly Monday to Friday covering the later part of the 8am to 8pm shift (11.45-2000). Part time hours available are Monday to Friday, 7.5hours to cover the evenings.

This will include working some weekends and Bank holidays.

You would be responsible for

  • Maintaining long-term consistency in the level of service the support team provide.
  • Data entry and sample preparation in our specimen reception areas
  • Dealing with enquiries from patients and clinical staff over the telephone and face to face.

What we’re looking for

You’ll need to be able to

1. Deal with receipt of samples into the laboratory arriving via patients, staff and the pneumatic sample delivery tube.

2. Sort, prioritise, match and apply a unique barcode label to samples and request forms.

3. Input of patient and sample data into the laboratory computer using the laboratory information management system.

4. To load samples onto automated analytical systems and perform laboratory tests under supervision.

5. Solves problems related to mislabelled/lost samples and other enquiries.

6. To be an initial contact point for patients and visitors to the directorate

7. Process samples for sending to other laboratories for analysis.

8. Work on the late shift up to 2000.
