Year 3 Teacher — St Wilfrid's Catholic Primary School, Angmering

About this role

The School

St Wilfrid's Catholic Primary School is a small, friendly school in the village of Angmering, West Sussex, part of the Bosco Catholic Education Trust. With 179 pupils aged four to eleven, the school is large enough to offer a full and rich curriculum but small enough to know every child as an individual.

The school's ethos — Aim High, Believe and Achieve — runs through everything it does. Strong early years provision, a clear commitment to inclusion, and a settled, nurturing community atmosphere make this a school where teaching feels purposeful and well-supported.

This is a Catholic school within the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. Candidates do not need to be Catholic to apply for this role through Sussex Teachers, but an understanding of and respect for the Catholic ethos of the school is expected.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Year 3 class teacher to take full responsibility for a Lower Key Stage 2 class at St Wilfrid's for the final five weeks of the summer term, from 15 June to the last day of school.

This is a substantive class teaching role, not a cover supervisor position. The successful teacher will take on full planning, teaching, marking, and assessment responsibilities from day one, working within the school's established curriculum plans and assessment systems.

You will plan and deliver well-structured, engaging lessons aligned with the National Curriculum across all subject areas. You will mark and assess pupils' work regularly, maintaining clear and accurate records in line with the school's expectations. You will create a calm, inclusive, and high-expectation classroom environment and support the range of learners in the class, including those with SEND, using the school's existing systems and support staff. You will work as a full member of the Lower KS2 team for the duration of the placement, attending relevant staff meetings and briefings.

There is a clear and specific end date to this role — the last day of the summer term. This makes it an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher who wants to return to the classroom, a teacher between permanent posts, or an Early Career Teacher with strong KS2 experience looking to build their independent class teaching record.

Pay and Contract

Pay for this role is based on your position on the Main Pay Scale (MPS) and is processed weekly via PAYE. Income tax and National Insurance are deducted correctly before you receive your pay. There are no umbrella companies and no hidden deductions.

What We Are Looking For

You will need Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), which is essential for this role, along with genuine experience teaching in Key Stage 2, ideally in Year 3 or a neighbouring year group. A confident knowledge of the Lower KS2 curriculum across the core subjects — English, mathematics, and science — and the wider foundation subjects is important, as this is a full planning role from the first day.

You will need a positive, inclusive approach to classroom management, reliable and professional conduct, and the adaptability that short-term supply teaching demands. An enhanced DBS certificate is required — we will advise if you need to apply for or update yours. Two professional references from previous schools or employers are needed, along with the right to work in the UK.

This role is suitable for experienced primary teachers. It is also appropriate for confident Early Career Teachers who have completed or are completing their induction and have strong KS2 class-teaching experience. If you are unsure whether your background is the right fit, call us and we will give you an honest assessment.

Why Work Through Sussex Teachers?

Sussex Teachers is an independent, Brighton-based, family-owned agency established in 2007. We are not a corporate chain and we are not backed by private equity. We specialise in primary schools across East and West Sussex, and we know this school personally.

You will deal with one dedicated consultant, not a call centre. You speak to the same person from first enquiry to last day of placement. If anything needs resolving during your time at St Wilfrid's, you have a direct number for someone who knows both you and the school.

Pay is always at your correct Main Pay Scale rate, processed weekly via PAYE with no umbrella companies. There are no finder's fees, ever — if the school invites you back for a further placement or offers you a longer-term role, we will never charge you or the school a penny.

All registered teachers receive free CPD-certified Safeguarding and Child Protection in Schools training and Prevent training as standard, fully compliant with current DfE requirements. Nest pension auto-enrolment is available after three months of continuous service.
