An exciting opportunity is available for a Packaging Sciences Apprentice to join a well-established R&D centre in Wantage, supporting packaging, materials and product assessment while studying towards a part-time Chemical Science BSc (Hons) with Manchester Metropolitan University.

This hands-on role is ideal for someone passionate about chemistry, materials science and applied laboratory work, offering real industry experience alongside academic study.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting packaging, materials and product testing within an R&D laboratory environment
  • Preparing, packing and testing food containers to industry standards
  • Carrying out analytical and investigative laboratory techniques (e.g. microscopy, chromatography, spectroscopy, thermal analysis)
  • Recording, analysing and reporting technical data with clear conclusions
  • Managing samples, documentation and traceability using IT systems
  • Working collaboratively across R&D, customer and factory support activities

What we're looking for

Essential

  • Minimum 104 UCAS points (BCC) at A-level or equivalent, including Chemistry
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good IT skills (MS Office)
  • Ability to balance work commitments with academic study
  • A proactive, reliable team player with good time management
  • Commitment to safe working and continuous learning

Desirable

  • Experience in food packaging, food production, laboratories or analytical chemistry
