GP Practice Trainee Dispenser

About this role

1. Dispensing Support (Under Supervision) Assist with the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions under the direct supervision of a qualified Dispenser or GP. Support the preparation and assembly of compliance aids (e.g. Dossetts/blister packs) in line with Practice procedures. Develop understanding of medicines, labelling, dosage instructions and accuracy checking. Promptly escalate any discrepancies, queries or concerns regarding prescriptions, labelling or medicines to a supervising colleague. Maintain awareness of dispensing errors, near misses and safety issues and report these appropriately. 2. Prescription Handling & Financial Responsibilities Accurately record dispensing information and patient data using Practice computer systems, including Titan PMR and handheld devices. Assist with processing prescriptions for submission to the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA). Collect prescription charges and check exemption status under supervision, ensuring accurate recording of all transactions. Operate the dispensary till for cash and card payments in accordance with Practice financial procedures. Maintain accurate records and documentation relating to dispensing activity. 3. Stock Control & Medicines Storage Assist with the receipt, checking, restocking and rotation of medicines and supplies. Ensure medicines are stored safely and correctly in accordance with manufacturers guidance and Practice policy. Support coldchain management by assisting with temperature monitoring and recording. Report low stock levels, expired items or storage concerns promptly to a senior team member. 4. Patient & Administrative Support Provide a courteous, professional and efficient service to patients at all times. Handle patient enquiries appropriately, referring clinical or complex queries to a qualified member of staff. Support administrative tasks within the dispensary, including record keeping correspondence and document handling. Maintain an organised, tidy and supportive dispensary working environment. 5. Hygiene, Health & Safety Maintain cleanliness of work areas, shelves and equipment in line with Practice infection control and hygiene standards. Comply with Health & Safety requirements and report hazards, incidents or nearmisses promptly. Use equipment and systems safely and responsibly, following training and Practice guidance. 6. Governance, Confidentiality & Professional Conduct Maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with GDPR, Practice policy and professional standards. Adhere to all Practice Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Follow safeguarding policies and attend mandatory safeguarding training. Promote equality, dignity and respect for patients, carers and colleagues. Act professionally and responsibly at all times, recognising the importance of trust and accountability within healthcare. 7. Training, Supervision & Development Undertake and actively participate in the accredited Dispensary Assistant qualification. Complete required training modules, assessments and competency signoffs within agreed timeframes. Attend supervision, appraisal and review meetings as required. Demonstrate ongoing development of skills, knowledge and confidence.
