Winchester City Council is seeking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic, and self-motivated Building Control Surveyor to join our dynamic and supportive Building Control Team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-performing service that operates across 250 square miles of central Hampshire, encompassing a rich variety of historic towns, picturesque villages and attractive rural landscapes.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in plan checking and site inspections, along with strong communication and IT skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to effectively organise and prioritise a varied workload. A thorough understanding of the Building Act 1984, the Building Regulations, and the Building Safety Act 2022 is essential.

Applicants must hold a minimum of BSR Class 2 competency and be a member of a recognised professional body such as RICS, CABE, or an equivalent. As this is a predominantly site-based role, candidates must be capable of meeting the physical and travel demands of the position.

Previous experience in a local authority setting is desirable, as is a proactive attitude and a commitment to high standards.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including

· 26 days annual leave, rising to 33 days with length of service

· Up to 13 additional flexi-leave days per year (subject to operational requirements)

· Option to purchase up to 5 additional days of annual leave

· Discounts with major high street retailers and local leisure centres

· Salary sacrifice schemes for car and cycle to work

· Free parking at any Winchester Park and Ride during work hours

· Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme

· Season ticket loans

· A supportive and inclusive working environment

· Ongoing support for professional development
