Our son is non-verbal, autistic, and has learning difficulties. He communicates using sounds, basic signing, and a communication pad. He requires close supervision at all times, as he has limited awareness of danger.

We’re looking for someone who

  • Is a strong, positive role model
  • Has a patient, understanding, and encouraging nature
  • Is proactive and happy to come up with activities to keep him engaged
  • Can support him in a way that builds his confidence and independence

The role may include

  • Supporting him with activities and outings
  • Keeping him active and engaged (he thrives with structure and encouragement)
  • Occasional assistance with personal care (e.g. after swimming, dressing, and very occasional toileting support)

We’re happy for the right person to bring their own ideas and energy into the role—what matters most is kindness, patience, and a willingness to connect with him in a way that suits him best.

Duties include

  • Personal grooming
  • Transportation

-Companionship

  • Dressing / undressing
  • Accessing and participating in a range of activities e.g. swimming, walks, shopping trips, household chores etc

Candidate qualities

  • Reliable with good timekeeping
  • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • Hygienic, tidy and well organised
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
  • Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Honest and cheerful
  • Creative
  • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
  • Must be comfortable with pets
