Are you an experienced or a trainee Religious Studies teacher?

Looking to build your CPD, share best practice with a community of subject experts and further inspire your teaching? AQA is recruiting GCSE examiners for Religious Studies for summer 2026. This flexible role fits alongside a full-time teaching job and is completed online from home.

Key responsibilities

  • Review student responses and apply the mark scheme accurately and consistently to ensure fair results.
  • Commit an average of 15 to 20 hours a week to marking during the exam period.
  • Mark around 190 exam papers.
  • Complete your marking over approximately one month. Full details of your allocation, deadlines and earnings will be confirmed when you receive your contract.

What you need

  • Preferably three full terms teaching Religious Studies within the last five years. We’re also considering applications from trainee teachers and ECTs for Religious Studies, subject to requirements.
  • A senior referee who can verify your relevant experience.
  • Preferably a degree, teaching qualification or equivalent in Religious Studies or a related field.
  • Take part in standardisation, which gives you the chance to practise applying the mark scheme before marking begins. Standardisation typically takes a few hours and fits around your existing commitments.
  • Availability during the standardisation and marking windows for your selected paper.
