Learning Mentor

About this role

If you're someone who enjoys supporting others, building relationships, and helping young people overcome challenges, a Learning Mentor role could be the perfect next step.

We're working with a number of specialist schools across Alton and the surrounding areas, looking for caring, resilient individuals to join them as Learning Mentors on both flexible and long-term placements.

No previous school experience? That's absolutely fine.

You don't need to have worked in education before. What's more important is your ability to stay calm, understand behaviour, and build trust with students who may need extra emotional or behavioural support.

We'll provide training, guidance, and hands-on school experience so you feel supported from day one.

As a Learning Mentor, you'll support students both inside and outside the classroom, helping them feel more confident, regulated, and engaged in learning.

Your role may include

  • Supporting students with additional emotional and behavioural needs (often SEMH)
  • Helping young people manage emotions and navigate challenges
  • Building strong, positive relationships with students
  • Working alongside teachers, SEN teams, and pastoral staff
  • Acting as a calm, consistent, and supportive presence throughout the day

This is a rewarding role where the relationships you build can have a lasting impact.

This role is about far more than education - it's about helping young people feel supported, understood, and able to succeed.

You'll gain valuable experience in

  • Behaviour support
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Pastoral care
  • SEN and SEMH support

It's also an excellent stepping stone into careers such as teaching, educational psychology, youth work, counselling, or pastoral support.

We're particularly interested in hearing from people who have experience supporting young people in different settings, including:

  • Sports coaches
  • Psychology graduates
  • Youth workers
  • Support workers
  • Individuals with a care background

If you're patient, approachable, emotionally resilient, and able to build rapport, this could be a fantastic fit.

  • Flexible and long-term Learning Mentor opportunities
  • Weekly pay from £90-£100 per day (PAYE)
  • Free CPD training including behaviour support and safeguarding
  • Opportunities to gain school experience before committing
  • Ongoing support from a friendly, people-first team

At Quokka Education, safeguarding is our priority.

All applicants will complete vetting checks in line with Department for Education guidance, including an online search as part of the process. We'll support you through every stage so you feel fully informed and prepared.

If you're looking for a meaningful role where you can genuinely make a difference, we'd love to hear from you.
