About the Role

As a Casual Celebrant & Deputy Registrar, you will

Officiate and register marriages and civil partnerships at a range of venues, including the Register Office, approved premises, and private homes

Deliver a variety of ceremonies, including naming ceremonies, renewal of vows, and citizenship ceremonies

Support the registration of births, deaths, and stillbirths where required

Handle financial transactions and maintain accurate records

Provide excellent customer service alongside administrative support

Stay up to date with Registration Acts, regulations, and procedural changes through attending regular training and development sessions.

You will be asked on a monthly basis to provide your availability and work will be allocated across the team in advance. Work can also be allocated at short notice where required.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications & Experience

A minimum of Level 3 education (or equivalent)

Experience in public speaking, customer service, and working with diverse communities

Skills & Attributes

A compassionate and confident communicator

Strong attention to detail, including clear and accurate handwriting

Well-organised, adaptable, and IT proficient

A professional and courteous manner appropriate for ceremonial duties

Someone reliable and suited to flexible working patterns with a commitment to working regularly across a service which operates 7 days per week.

Interview Process

Reading Town Hall Location. 45-minute Competency based questions interview including a brief practical exercise.
