The Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) is seeking a Radio Team Coordinator. This opportunity sits within the Directorate of UK Technical Maritime Services (UKTMS), which has responsibility for developing, negotiating, and maintaining UK objectives and regulations relating to a wide range of safety and environment issues associated with ships and vessels of all sizes (from small pleasure vessels to the largest internationally trading ships).

This role is in the Radio Team, which deals with the use and protection of radio spectrum, development and availability of technical standards for bridge navigation and radio communications equipment. The team is dedicated to ensuring that UK vessels are equipped with reliable, compliant, and future‑ready radio and navigation technologies.

The job holder will provide comprehensive and proactive support and coordination to the Radio Team in delivering its responsibilities and objectives, with particular responsibility for managing assessments for Ofcom radio licence applications.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to

  • Management of the co-ordination, assessment and approval of applications from Ofcom (within agreed deadlines) for non-operational innovation licences (i.e. drones) and radio frequency jamming exercises, to ensure that maritime radio frequencies are not adversely affected.
  • Develop risk assessments, working with external Technical Advisors to evaluate maritime radio-interference risks and support a new system for assessing and mitigating impacts, including those arising from military exercises and new UK transmitters.
  • Coordinate and facilitate internal and external meetings, overseeing logistics, developing agendas, preparing briefing materials, providing secretariat support, and ensuring clear tracking and delivery of actions and outcomes.
  • Support the organisation and delivery of international engagements, including International Maritime Organization (IMO) meetings, by maintaining decision trackers, organising documentation, and contributing to early drafts of briefing papers.
  • Manage financial processes, including processing invoices and producing accurate monthly finance returns, accruals, prepayments and budget submissions.
