RPS Group Limited • Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire
About this role
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and collaborative Engineering Technician to join our Building Engineering team in Milton Keynes. Working closely with structural engineers and multidisciplinary colleagues, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of new‑build structural designs, structural investigations, and coordinated engineering solutions across residential, public sector, and commercial developments. This role offers a dynamic and rewarding technical environment where you will develop your skills while contributing to high‑quality project delivery.
Purpose and Scope of the Role
You will support the structural engineering team in producing accurate and coordinated design models, drawings, and technical outputs for a range of building engineering projects. Your work will span both new‑build design and the assessment of existing structures, assisting in the preparation of drawings, 3D models, survey records, and technical documentation that underpin our engineering solutions.
Working under the guidance of senior engineers and technicians, you will use Revit and AutoCAD to create and update structural and civil engineering models, ensuring that all outputs align with project requirements, industry standards, and internal quality expectations. You will also assist with document control, drawing distribution, and the ongoing management of digital information across live projects.
Your role will involve close collaboration with engineers working in timber, steel, concrete, and masonry design, helping to coordinate information with architects, MEP engineers, fire specialists, and other disciplines. You will contribute to a positive, proactive working environment and support the team in meeting deadlines, preparing technical information, and responding to project needs.
Working Across New‑Build Design and Existing‑Building Projects
You will support the delivery of low to medium rise residential developments, including apartments, townhouses, and mixed‑use schemes, contributing to the preparation of structural layouts, general arrangements, sections, and details. In addition, you will assist engineers working on structural investigations of existing buildings, helping to organise survey information, record site findings, and translate engineering guidance into clear, well‑structured drawings.
This combination of new‑build and existing‑structure experience provides a varied and engaging workload and supports your development across a broad range of technical areas.
Technical Responsibilities and Digital Delivery
Digital delivery is fundamental to how we work. You will play an active role in producing Revit and AutoCAD models that accurately reflect engineering intent, ensuring that all information is coordinated with the wider multidisciplinary team. You will assist in preparing project documentation, managing drawing registers, distributing technical information, and supporting the structured flow of design data across the team.
You will apply sound technical judgement as you gain experience, working closely with your line manager to complete tasks with accuracy, clarity, and attention to detail. Your ability to follow established technical processes while contributing ideas for improved workflows will be highly valued.
Team Collaboration and Communication
You will be part of a supportive and collaborative environment where clear communication is essential. You will work closely with engineers at all levels, contributing positively to internal discussions, coordinating effectively with project partners, and helping maintain strong working relationships across the team.
Good written and verbal communication skills will help you produce well‑presented technical outputs and engage confidently with colleagues and project stakeholders. You will be encouraged to ask questions, seek guidance, and grow your confidence as you develop your technical capabilities.
Professional Development and Progression
A career as an Engineering Technician at Tetra Tech offers significant opportunities for progression. You will have access to accredited training pathways with the ICE and IStructE, and you will be supported in working toward EngTech status if this aligns with your career goals.
Through structured learning, mentoring, and hands-on project experience, you will develop the skills needed to advance within the technician and engineering career frameworks. Your personal development plan will not only support your technical growth but also open opportunities for broader responsibilities as your confidence and competence evolve.
Qualifications and Experience
You will have experience working as an engineering or Revit technician within the built environment, along with proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD. A relevant HND qualification or equivalent professional experience is expected, along with competence in Microsoft Office and strong organisational skills. You will be motivated, proactive, comfortable working autonomously when required, and committed to delivering high‑quality technical work as part of a wider team.
