Health Care Assistant

About this role

Job Purpose

To work as a team member under supervision of the Treatment Room nurses to provide and maintain an optimum level of care for our patients.

Responsibilities

Taking Blood Samples from Patients (Phlebotomy) Check vaccine refrigerators daily and record temperature. Unlocking treatment room cupboards and ensuring all equipment is set up for the day Fill the hand-held liquid nitrogen as needed. Filing of patient information and entering results of Blood Pressures, Urinalysis etc on the Computer. Re-stock and check the Doctors rooms as needed. Keep all cupboards and trolleys well stocked and tidy. Be familiar with Treatment Room protocols and take part in their regular updating. Unpacking deliveries of stock. Check prescriptions daily against treatment room book Answering phone and dealing with queries, liaise with nursing staff Clinical Care Work alongside the clinicians in the provision of patient care. Undertake and record a range of tasks, which may include: a) Measurement of height and weight b) Urinalysis c) Measurement of blood pressure, temperature and pulse d) Peak flow measurements e) Recording of ECGs / 24 hour BPs / 24 hour ECGs/ 7 day ECGs f) Phlebotomy g) Assisting with leg ulcer clinics / simple dressings h) Assisting with Family Planning Clinics i) Assisting with Dermatology Clinics j) Assist nurses in INR clinics and doctors in Minor Op clinics k) Undertake NHS Health Checks Provide smoking cessation support for patients Undertake dementia screening Recognise changes in the patients observations, which must be reported and acted on. Assist clinicians in emergency management of patients. Enable patients to access appropriate professionals in the practice team. Act as a chaperone please see separate Chaperone policy and Guidelines for Chaperones Protocol. Provide relevant health promotion literature for patients. Other duties as per nurses and doctors instructions as dictated by changes in the nature of Whitstable Medical Practice.
