About this role
Hampshire County Council’s Public Health team is dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of our residents and reducing inequalities across the county. We work collaboratively with partners to deliver statutory public health functions, support evidence-based decision making, and drive positive outcomes for local communities.
Joining our Public Health team as an experienced and highly organised Business Manager, you’ll lead our administration function and play an integral role in enabling the team to operate effectively across governance, financial, workforce and operational processes.
This is a key role within a busy and friendly team, ensuring the smooth running of business operations and supporting the effective delivery of statutory public health functions. You’ll manage a small administration team and provide high level business and governance support to senior leaders, including the Director of Public Health.
What you’ll do
This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same.
You will
- Lead and manage a small administration team, providing direction, support and development to ensure a high-quality service across Public Health.
- Oversee the allocation of administrative and PA support across the team, including direct support to senior leaders.
- Manage agendas, papers and accurate minutes for key management meetings.
- Support the team through Hampshire County Council’s democratic processes, providing governance and democratic support, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
- Provide financial and HR support, including budget monitoring, invoice processing, recruitment and induction coordination.
- Oversee Freedom of Information (FOI) and complaints processes, together with our team’s risk register, coordinating timely and high-quality responses.
What we’re looking for
A proactive, organised and detail-focused professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, you’ll bring
- Experience in a senior administrative, office management or business support role and a good understanding of administrative best practice, data protection and confidentiality.
- Proven experience of managing or supervising staff and coordinating workloads effectively.
- A commitment to delivering high-quality services and strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A collaborative, adaptable and resilient approach and excellent communication skills, with confidence in working with senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Experience supporting governance processes, meetings or committees.
- Strong IT and digital skills, including Microsoft Office and collaboration tools.
- The ability to problem solve, use sound judgment and handle sensitive information appropriately.
