The Surgery care group at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) have an exciting opportunity for a motivated administrative professional to join our friendly, experienced and supportive team.
In this role, you will work closely with Consultants and colleagues across the care group to help ensure patients receive the highest quality care.

As a Patient Administrator, you will play a key part in achieving this by providing essential secretarial and administrative support, coordinating outpatient clinics, arranging patient admissions for surgery and communicating with patients about their treatment and care.
Your work and contribution will directly support patient pathways and a positive patient experience.
What you will do
You will be working closely with your team of consultants to provide a comprehensive administration service which will involve:
- Working closely with the clinical teams and co-ordinating the patient pathways from referral onwards.
- Managing the administration for the service as well as provide secretarial support to Consultants.
- Supporting the wider team by typing letters, handling queries from patients and other care providers and supporting timely communication.
- Prioritising and organising your own workload while contributing effectively to the wider administrative team.
This role is interesting and varied, giving you the opportunity to develop relationships with patients and supporting them throughout their treatment and care.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a flexible and motivated individual with the ability to manage a demanding workload with changing priorities. Confidentiality, professionalism and a willingness to learn are essential. You will need to be able to work in a calm, logical and methodical way and be able to multi-task whilst dealing with frequent interruptions in a busy environment. You will be be confident, diplomatic and approachable when communicating with patients and colleagues.
We are also looking for you to demonstrate
- A high level of organisation skills and attention to detail
- The ability to communicate clearly and compassionately over the telephone and in person
- Use of IT skills, including Microsoft Office
- The ability to work independently, whilst seeking guidance where necessary
