Community Engagement Officer

Community Engagement Officer | Waltham Forest & Newham | 35 hours per week (Full-Time) | Weekend availability essential | £25,000 per annum

This role could suit someone starting their career, including a college leaver, or anyone with an interest in community-based work

Our client delivers the Get Up and Go community transport and social engagement programme, funded by the Motability Foundation.

The service supports older adults (60+) and people with disabilities across Waltham Forest and Newham, helping them stay active, independent, and socially connected through accessible transport, social activities, and organised outings.

The programme delivers a range of community-focused services, including

  • Social clubs and group activities
  • Community outings designed to reduce isolation and improve well-being
  • Door-to-store shopping service

Can you make a valuable contribution to improving community participation and helping people stay socially connected? Due to the varied nature of the service, no two days are the same.

Requirements

Essential

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine passion for community work and supporting vulnerable people
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in basic IT (email, Microsoft Office, social media)
  • Reliable, proactive, and willing to learn
  • Commitment to equality, inclusion, and respectful engagement
  • Flexibility to work weekends when required

Desirable

  • Experience in community work, volunteering, or customer-facing roles (including transferable skills)
  • Understanding of issues affecting older adults and disabled people
  • Ability to create simple communications (flyers, newsletters, social media posts)
  • Experience supporting events, workshops, or community activities (including transferable skills)
  • Familiarity with local communities in Waltham Forest or Newham

The Role

  • Deliver outreach and engagement activities across local communities
  • Organise and support events, workshops, and community meetings
  • Act as a key link between the organisation and service users
  • Build relationships with residents, groups, and community partners
  • Gather feedback to improve services and increase participation
  • Support co-design of inclusive community-led activities
  • Create simple communications such as flyers, newsletters, and social media content
  • Monitor engagement activity and assist with reporting and evaluation
  • Support general project administration and coordination tasks
  • Represent the organisation at community events and outreach activities
