Job summary

Suleymaniye Community Association / Suleymaniye Mosque is seeking a full-time Religious Worker to support its religious, educational and community activities in London. This is a temporary, non-pastoral role within a religious organisation. The postholder will support Islamic education, Qur’an-related teaching support, Arabic religious text engagement, and community-based religious programmes, particularly in support of the mosque’s Turkish-speaking congregation and wider community.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of Islamic education and structured learning programmes organised by the mosque
  • Assist with Qur’an teaching and related religious study sessions for children, young people and adults
  • Support classes and study circles in Islamic studies under the direction of the mosque’s existing religious leadership
  • Read, explain and assist with Arabic religious texts and educational materials appropriate to the mosque’s programmes
  • Provide religious education support and community guidance in Turkish where required for members of the congregation
  • Assist with organising and delivering mosque-based religious events, educational workshops and community outreach activities
  • Help prepare teaching materials and religious study resources for classes and community sessions
  • Support women’s, family and community religious engagement activities, where required by the mosque’s programme needs
  • Liaise with the mosque committee and relevant staff or volunteers regarding programme delivery and attendance
  • Maintain appropriate records relating to classes, attendance and programme support as required by the organisation
  • Undertake other related non-pastoral religious duties consistent with the Religious Worker route and the needs of the organisation

Essential skills, qualifications and experience

  • Demonstrable knowledge of Islam, Qur’an and Islamic studies
  • Ability to read Arabic religious texts and prepare or support educational religious materials
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Turkish and English
  • Experience of supporting religious education, Qur’an teaching, Islamic studies classes, or community religious programmes in a mosque or similar religious organisation
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work respectfully with children, adults and families from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work as part of a religious and community team

Desirable

  • Experience supporting mosque-based educational or outreach programmes in Europe or the UK
  • Experience assisting with women’s religious education or family/community support programmes
  • Experience preparing lesson materials or structured study content in Qur’an / Islamic studies

Important role clarification

This is a non-pastoral Religious Worker role. It is not a Minister of Religion / Imam position and does not involve leading a congregation as the core function of the role.
