We are recruiting for Junior Clinical Fellows (CT1-2/ST1-2 equivalent) in Critical Care.
The successful candidates will gain experience in both cardiac and general intensive care working across our three critical care units and surgical high dependency units. A minimum of 2 years post graduate clinical experience is essential (foundation training or equivalent).
This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the UK’s premier cardiac centre - Barts Heart Centre (BHC). The Barts Heart Centrewas created in 2015 by the merger ofservices and staff from the London Chest Hospital, UCLH’s The Heart Hospital, and those already in existence at St Bartholomew’s.
It is the largest specialist cardiovascular centre in the UK, bringing together a wide range of expertise in clinical care, research and education for cardiovascular conditions.

Heart Centre has state-of-the-art facilities
10 operating theatres, 10 catheter labs (including 2 hybrid rooms), 255 general cardiac beds and 98 higher acuity care beds including 58 Level 3 critical care beds. The centre has one of the busiest surgical programmes in Europe and performs more HAC PCIs and cardiac MRI and CT scans than any other centre in the world. It is Europe’s largest specialised cardiovascular centre, covering a population of three million people across north and east London, west Essex and beyond. It has also created the world’s biggest centre of excellence for adults with congenital heart disease. The Thorax Centre provides multi-disciplinary care for patients with lung disease.
This post is suitable for applicants who wish to pursue a career in intensive care medicine.
This fellowship aims to provide basic experience and training in delivering care of the acutely eteriorating patient and patients in multi organm failure.

They will be exposed to the range of cardiovascular pathologies encountered in the Barts Heart Centre. The fellow will have the opportunity to gain clinical experience, clinical leadership, and education skills. The fellow will be encouraged to attend the educational programme, including a weekly core knowledge course and, where feasible, radiology and echocardiography review meetings. They will be encouraged to participate in relevant national conferences during the fellowship. For interested and motivated individuals, we encourage undertaking an audit and short research projects in critical care.
The responsibilities and level of supervision will be adjusted based on the successful applicant's experience and background.
