Mental Health Liaison Team – Green Parks House (PRUH)
Fixed term
12 months | Full time | Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm
We have an exciting opportunity for a SAS doctor to join our well‑established, supportive Mental Health Liaison Team (MHLT) based at Green Parks House, delivering an all‑age liaison psychiatry service to the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH).
This is a full‑time, 12‑month fixed‑term post, offering an excellent opportunity to work within a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team, providing high‑quality mental health care within a busy acute hospital environment.
The post holder will work closely with Consultant Psychiatrists, junior doctors, and the wider multi‑disciplinary team to provide timely psychiatric assessment and intervention for patients presenting with mental health needs within:
- The Emergency Department
- Acute medical inpatient wards
You will play a key role in supporting safe, effective clinical decision‑making at the acute–mental health interface, ensuring patients receive the right care in the right setting.

- Provide medical and psychiatric input to the Mental Health Liaison Team for patients presenting to the Emergency Department and acute inpatient wards at PRUH.
- Undertake comprehensive psychiatric assessments, formulate treatment and risk management plans, and provide guidance on appropriate pharmacological interventions.
- Ensure a timely and effective medical response to referrals made to the Liaison Team, working in line with service priorities and national standards.
- Act as a Section 12–approved clinician, undertaking Mental Health Act assessments within Emergency Department and inpatient settings where required.
- Contribute to, and where appropriate lead, clinical decision‑making around discharge pathways, including:• Referral to Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Teams
- Recommendation for admission to mental health inpatient services
- Work collaboratively with acute hospital staff and community mental health services to support safe transitions of care.
This role is ideal for an SAS doctor with SEC 12 approved seeking to further develop their experience in liaison psychiatry, acute mental health care, and multidisciplinary working within an acute hospital setting.
