Specialist Pharmacist Critical Care and Parenteral Nutrition | Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

About this role

We are looking for a pro-active and dedicated Clinical Pharmacist to join our critical care pharmacy team in delivering high quality pharmacy services across our acute trust covering specialities such as haematology, renal, neurology, trauma, and vascular.

This unique role has extended responsibilities across theatres, pain, and nutrition. As an integral member of the critical care pharmacy team, the post holder will be organised, reliable, self-motivated, and have excellent communication skills. They must be committed to developing their clinical knowledge with training and accreditation for the critical care

and parenteral nutrition specialisms, and will ultimately

  • Contribute to ward rounds and work in partnership with the multidisciplinary teams to ensure the effective and safe use of medicines within the critical care units of the trust.
  • In liaison with dietitians and the nutrition multidisciplinary team, screen and order parenteral nutrition for specialities within the trust.

In addition, the post holder will have opportunities to develop their skills as a directorate pharmacist, working closely with the Critical Care Lead Pharmacist to deliver KPIs with involvement in audit, finance, education and training, incident investigation and quality improvement.

  • The successful candidate will deliver pharmacy services under the Critical Care Lead Pharmacists and work closely with the Parenteral Nutrition and Surgery Lead Pharmacist supporting a wide and varied patient population across the trust.
  • The post-holder must undertake guided training provided by the lead pharmacists and develop their foundational knowledge of critical care and parenteral nutrition with practice, exposure and selfdirected learning to provide high-quality, patient-centred clinical cover of the critical care and Parenteral nutrition specialities.
  • Within critical care, they will liaise with the critical care multidisciplinary team offering advice and

support to ensure effective and safe use, storage, and custody of medicines.

  • Under the Critical Care Lead Pharmacist, the candidate will have opportunities to develop their leadership and management skills with involvement in education and training (within and out of pharmacy), electronic prescribing, medication expenditure, guideline development, audits, incident investigation and service improvement.
