About this role

Band 6 Specialist Homelessness Podiatrist

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative podiatrist to work within our Specialist Podiatry Service in Tower Hamlets.

The Band 6 Homelessness Podiatrist will deliver specialist podiatry care to individuals that reside in Tower Hamlets as well as individuals experiencing homelessness, targeting a highly vulnerable and hard-to-reach population within Tower Hamlets.

The role focuses on

  • Early intervention
  • Prevention of foot complications
  • Management of acute and high-risk foot conditions
  • Facilitating access into mainstream podiatry and wider healthcare services

This post plays a critical role inreducing health inequalities, preventing avoidable hospital admissions, and acting as agateway into healthcare servicesfor a marginalised cohort.

You will also be involved daily in our

Emergency Clinic at 8

30am Monday-Friday which provides Gold standard active wound care

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Delivery

Providepodiatric assessment and treatment within

  • Hostels
  • Temporary accommodation
  • Outreach/community settings

Manage

  • High-risk foot conditions
  • Soft tissue lesions and infections
  • Diabetic foot complications (in line with service scope)

Identify and escalate

  • Red flag conditions
  • Suspected infection, ischaemia, or tissue loss

Outreach & Engagement

  • Deliverproactive outreach clinics to improve access for individuals who do not engage with traditional services

Build relationships with

  • Hostel staff
  • Support workers
  • Voluntary sector organisations
  • Encourage uptake of podiatry and wider health services

Health Promotion & Prevention

  • Providefoot health education tailored to the homelessness population

Promote

  • Basic foot care
  • Footwear advice
  • Early help-seeking behaviours
  • Support prevention of conditions such as:• Trench foot
  • Infection
  • Ulceration
