A forward‑thinking specialist SEN provision in the West Drayton area is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their expanding team. The setting supports children with Autism, complex learning needs and severe communication difficulties, offering a nurturing, structured and highly therapeutic environment.

The school is based on a large, green, environmentally friendly site with exceptional facilities, including sensory rooms, therapeutic spaces and outdoor learning areas. With a team of highly skilled educators and therapists, the provision places pupils at the centre of every decision and is committed to helping each child reach their full potential.

This role is ideal for an experienced HLTA or a strong, confident SEN practitioner looking for a stepping stone into teacher training.

About the Setting

  • A specialist SEN environment supporting pupils with ASC, SLD and complex communication needs

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering planned lessons, interventions and learning activities under the direction of a teacher
  • Leading small‑group and 1:1 sessions for pupils with ASC and severe learning difficulties
  • Using SEN strategies such as visual timetables, sensory integration and augmentative communication
  • Supporting communication development using tools such as PECS, Makaton or AAC (training can be provided)
  • Creating a calm, consistent and nurturing learning environment
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to meet pupils' EHCP targets
  • Contributing to planning, assessment and classroom organisation

Essential Requirements

  • HLTA status or equivalent Level 4 qualification, OR significant experience as a strong SEN Learning Support Assistant
  • Experience supporting children or young people with ASC and/or severe learning difficulties
  • Confident leading learning activities and supporting behaviour regulation
  • Strong knowledge of SEN strategies and communication tools
  • Excellent teamwork, communication and a calm, caring approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service

Desirable

  • Training in Team Teach or other positive behaviour approaches
  • Experience with PECS, Makaton or AAC
  • Understanding of safeguarding in specialist settings
