As a Security and Intelligence Analyst within our Custodial Services team, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the safety, security and good order of the prison estate. Working as part of the local Security and Intelligence team, you’ll support the collection, handling and dissemination of intelligence that helps minimise risk to the public and supports effective prison operations.
This is a varied and responsible role, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, can manage sensitive information with care, and enjoys working collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies. Your work will help create impactful solutions by ensuring intelligence is accurate, timely and handled in line with policy and legislation.
What you’ll do as a Security and Intelligence Analyst
You’ll be entrusted to
- Work as directed by Security Management to support daily intelligence and security activity.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the National Collection, Analysis and Dissemination Policy Framework and Function 4 Intelligence baselines.
- Ensure intelligence is used effectively to minimise risk to the public and preserve good order within the prison.
- Support analysts in producing key intelligence products and reports.
- Work closely with external agencies, including Police and Counter Terrorism teams, to ensure information is shared appropriately.
- Store, log, file and archive intelligence and security documentation in compliance with data protection requirements.
- Process DPA requests and manage security files in and out of the department.
- Complete minutes and actions for security‑related meetings as requested.
- Track intelligence actions and support the IR supervision process, completing MIRs where appropriate.
- Disseminate reports to relevant stakeholders accurately and securely.
- Support CCTV gathering, evidence handling, preservation and destruction in line with procedures.
- Assist Police with evidence and reporting queries, including CIPRA referrals.
- Complete risk assessments, escort documentation and prisoner assessments as required.
- Maintain intelligence systems and databases, including logging vehicles and alerts.
- Support incident management, lockdown searches and immediate threat tasking.
- Carry out additional duties as requested by the Security Management Team or Assistant Director Security.

Training requirement
Successful candidates will be required to complete the Level 4 Intelligence Analyst Course (minimum 18 months).
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and use your own initiative.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise demanding workloads.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong IT skills and good literacy levels.
- A willingness to learn and maintain high professional standards.
- The ability to work accurately with sensitive and confidential information.
- Experience working in a custodial or similarly secure environment (desirable).
- Knowledge of prison systems such as IMS, NOMIS, CMS or ViSOR (desirable).
Vetting and checks
This role requires formal Security Clearance and SSCL level 2 clearance, which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
