An opportunity has arisen with immediate effect for a IT Technician with excellent technical skills to contribute to the continued support of trust Digital Service Department.

It is expected that the IT Technician will be capable to perform a professional second line technical support service for Trust users.

The post holder(s) will be responsible for

  • To perform a professional second line technical support service for Trust users.
  • To configure, operate and maintain endpoint hardware and software including Laptop, Desktop, Mobile Phone and Tablets and associated accessories and peripherals
  • To be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of a robust, customer-focussed technical support service.
  • To adhere to policies and processes to protect the technical support service

  • Ensures that operational processes are in place to maintain secure configuration, consistent classification and management of CIs, and for the verification and audit of configuration records.
  • Proposes and agrees the configuration items (CIs) to be uniquely identified with naming conventions.
  • Carries out agreed operational procedures associated with operating and controlling the installed (or virtual) hardware and software. This may include configuration and maintenance of multiple hardware or software platforms. Implements maintenance routines, utilising the appropriate tools and test equipment. Uses standard procedures and tools to carry out defined system backups, restoring data where necessary.
  • Identifies operational problems and contributes to their resolution. Investigates, diagnoses, and resolves low impact operational problems following incident management procedures, within service level agreement tolerances, referring to users, other staff, and suppliers, as necessary. Takes action on known errors and documented workarounds, logging such actions and advising supervisor or specialists when management or specialist attention is required.
  • Responds to simple calls and enquiries from users, specialists and others and takes appropriate action within defined limits of responsibility or area of specialism to deal with processing priorities. Accepts escalations and initiates first-level support action.
  • Provides technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures.
  • Conducts investigations of operational problems, provides reports and proposals for improvement, to specialists, users and managers. Participates in reviews of infrastructure performance, provides advice, and assists specialists or other system or service providers to plan amendments and other improvements to infrastructure and its operation.
  • Identifies operational problems and contributes to their resolution, checking that they are managed in accordance with agreed standards and procedures.

•Investigates potential and actual service problems and recommends solutions. Research business processes and recommends upgrades or improvements. Follows formal procedures to plan and test proposed solutions.

  • Prioritises and diagnoses incidents according to agreed procedures. Investigates causes of incidents and seeks resolution.
  • Escalates unresolved incidents, providing an effective interface between users and service providers supplying all necessary diagnostic information. Ensures that documentation of supported components is available and accessible to all who need to use it.
