A growing and highly respected MGA operating in the UK commercial market is seeking a Property Underwriting Assistant to join their London-based Property team. The business is known for its collaborative culture, strong underwriting discipline and commitment to professional development. Due to growth within their UK Commercial Property Team, a position for a Property Underwriting Assistant has arisen.
Your new role
As a Property Underwriting Assistant, you will provide high-quality technical and administrative support to the UK Commercial Property underwriting team. You will play a key role across new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments, ensuring underwriting processes run smoothly and in line with regulatory and internal standards. In this role, you will support underwriters with the evaluation of risk, the calculation of premiums and the preparation of quotations and renewals for UK Commercial Property risks. You will also be responsible for accurately inputting and maintaining risk data within underwriting and policy administration systems throughout the risk lifecycle.
A key element of this role will be that you act as a key point of contact for brokers, responding to queries, chasing outstanding information and developing effective working relationships. You will also issue policy documentation and renewal notices while ensuring full compliance with FCA requirements and internal underwriting guidelines.
Your role will involve performing a range of risk screening activities, including sanctions checks, flood risk analysis and virtual site assessments. You will maintain accurate electronic underwriting files, log quotes and declinatures and manage bordereaux returns for binder business. In addition, you will support the administration of delegated authority binders and ensure peer reviews are completed within required timescales.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have experience as an Underwriting Assistant or in a broker support or insurance operations role, ideally within UK Commercial Property. You will demonstrate strong attention to detail and confidence in handling underwriting documentation and risk data. You will have good IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Word, with experience of underwriting systems. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. Progress towards CII qualifications, or a willingness to study, will be highly beneficial.
